Intro to Maya: Texturing and Rendering

Interested in learning to create 3D assets for VR? Want to get an introduction to the complete pipeline in Maya? This is the workshop series for you!

What You’ll Learn

In this session, you’ll learn about:

  • Polygon texturing
  • UV mapping and layout
  • Creating textures and maps
  • Using the hypershade
  • Materials and cameras basic overview

About our Intro to Maya workshops

Following a presentation covering technical interfaces and theory, you’ll get hands-on with exercises and work on a small project of your own. We'll have headsets (HTC Vive, Samsung Gear, and Oculus) and VR-capable desktop computers available, so you can check your work out in VR immediately.

This series runs every Tuesday evening from June 13-27 (three 3-hour sessions). Please register for each workshop you’re interested in separately:


  • No programming, 3D software or animation experience required
  • Recommended, but not required: Basic knowledge of X, Y, Z axis; experience with Photoshop
  • Bring your own laptop and mouse, or let us know you need to borrow one.
  • We'll provide a personal-use Maya license. Please download and install software prior to the workshop.
  • All ages welcome!

About the instructor

Kimberly Koronya is a VR developer and experienced 3D artist.  She is currently working on a VR series inspired by personal events called Globes. She earned a BS in Game Art at Full Sail University, and helps coordinate DMG’s VR technical programming.
